Building Community outside of the web

I started attending events in 2016, the same year I launched my blog. I live in Los Angeles, which has a rich arts community. I was just looking for a way to get out of my house. Little did I know, the events would become a way reconnect with the arts community and inspire me to give back in the best ways I could.

My short stint in Eatonville, FL gave me a chance to narrow my focus and offer some events of my own. We met some wonderfult people at our Thomas House events and I wanted to extend that to my community here. Events listed below are held in Los Angles. Please join me and others in some upcoming Black & Bookish events.

Whether it's a conference or stand alone table in a coffee shop, Black & Bookish Pop-Ups are a good way to connect in person to my online shop. You can contact me thought my site for more details on bookings for you next event.

Discussions on a theme

Locations and times tbd

I know that many people want the chance to discuss literature and literary themes, but don't have the time to commit to one more book. The worst lie of my adult life is believing I can get everything done AND have time to read. This "book club" gives bookish people the chance to discuss themes common to a collection of books chosen in advance. Spoiler free excepts and book summaries are provided. We have a lively discussion connecting real life experiences to the theme of the month.

National Novel Writing Month

NaNoWriMo (as it's most commonly known) is a month long commitment to a writing project held in November. The goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days and has become sort of an addiction for writers at al levels.  In April and  July, Camp NaNo allows you to choose any writing project you desire at any word count.

In the past, I have scheduled breakfast kick-offs and regular writing meet-ups during these months. Check back for updates to the calendar on where to meet.
